Regina’s new art gallery, The Green Canvas, located at 1621 11th Ave., may be hosting seminars on how to acquire your license for medical marijuana for only a few more weeks. Unfortunately, due to recent interest in the purchase of the building, there may be a limited number of seminars remaining. With The Green Canvas offering free space to natural healing practices, as well as educating the public on how to legally obtain marijuana through Health Canada’s Medical Marihuana Division, it is not surprising that the potential buyer has pharmaceutical involvement and thus may be feeling threatened by the earth’s promising plants and with good reason too.
The Green Canvas offers space free of charge for healing practices such as massage therapy, acupuncture, physiotherapy, among others. There is also a free seminar held every Friday at 4:20 p.m that informs citizens about how to acquire a license to legally use or grow marijuana. This includes a brief description of symptoms and diseases that marijuana can be prescribed for. Although this is often a surprise to the general public, it is old news to the medical communities. Marijuana can be prescribed to treat a variety of symptoms and diseases ranging from nausea, seizures and pain management, to arthritis, AIDS, cancer and epilepsy.
Many doctors recognize the wide variety of uses for cannabis, be it in fiber or medicine. They understand that if marijuana were to become more mainstream and popular than it already is, the demand would plummet for the majority of the pills found on counters of pharmacies and many pills would even be replaced by this natural remedy. When doctors’ practices depend so much on the synthetic treatments as opposed to natural preventative measures, an establishment like The Green Canvas is very threatening. However, when a doctor’s practice is inspired through the desire to help people, providing them with safe medical advice, and treating them in the most efficient, safe manners, The Green Canvas is like a dream come true.
One in every two people is expected to get cancer in their life and marijuana is known to stop the growth of cancers and even begin shrinking them. This preventative measure could change our society and make this a disease of the past. Arthritis becomes common to people over 35 years old with osteoarthritis becoming apparent as you age. Marijuana is prescribed to help with the pain and also the inflammation surrounding the joints. Preventing this inflammation and production of cancerous cells could change the lives of millions.
Marijuana is threatening to pharmaceutical companies, and justifiably so. It is a safer, more effective herb than the majority of other prescriptions on the market and does not leave patients dependent on it. It can treat and cure some of the most common diseases of today and pharmaceutical companies are aware of this. The future of The Green Canvas is being jeopardized due to its dedication to informing the public on marijuana as well the threat it presents to pharmaceutical companies. These marijuana seminars will hopefully continue in the near future, but for now, we at HSC recommend catching what may be the last seminars on Fridays, at 4:20 p.m. This world does not need more natural remedies; it just needs more awareness of the natural remedies already available.
Metaphorically, the pharmacies have been building themselves giant “castles of sand”. But we all know that “Castles made of sand, slip into the sea… eventually”. So how about a sea of green? The revolution starts now.
