Depending on how serious of a condition someone has and how serious the consequences of not using it decides. For example, there is a 15yr old gal whose got her license because she lives with epilepsy. Because MJ has been proven to prevent, shorten and even stop a seizure, it is essential that this young citizen is given the best opportunity to stay healthy as she grows, as one severe seizure could pave an entirely different future for her. So I don’t believe it’s the age as much as it’s the situation that decides who gets licensed. For less serious, non-life-threatening situations, many medical practitioners are more comfortable signing for citizens over 18, or when they are accompanied by their parents.

Don’t be discouraged or misled! As of Jan 2010 there are over 4800 citizens licensed to possess medical marijuana in this country and over 3800 licensed growers! Health Canada Stats Finding an understanding doctor can be tedious, however with the right approach, a good doctor will sign. It is key to help them to see the benefits of Health Canada’s Medical Marihuana Access Program, the dangers of the black market, and the position you are being left in by receiving no help despite all efforts of seeking legal avenues of accessing a plant being used for medicine.
Realistically very few are prescribed medical marijuana, I think it’s somewhere around 1200 for the country and around 300 are licensed to grow. Fewer still are the medical professionals who will sign these forms. I’m trying to help my son with Aspergers to go through this process and time and time again have doors slammed in our faces. When I read these side effects of his meds it makes me want to scream! Cannabis has changed his life 100 % for the better! Want to be on the up and up but have been forced to continue like I’m a criminal.
